Bursaries in Paediatric Orthopaedics

BSCOS offers a variety of bursaries to support continuing education in Paediatric Orthopaedics.

The bursaries are listed below with their eligibility criteria.

Applications should be submitted electronically to the Hon Secretary before midnight on 1st February 2020

The purpose of this Bursary is to support a medical undergraduate in a UK Medical School with costs (up to £500) associated with the following activities;

Organising an elective placement relevant to the practice of children's orthopaedic surgery.

or

Presenting a paper relevant to the practice of children's orthopaedic surgery at a national or international meeting.

The applicant must apply in writing to the Honorary Secretary and include:

  • Letters of support from Medical School supervisor and a Member of BSCOS in good standing
  • Details of the proposed period of elective study or details of the meeting at which the work will be presented and details of accepted abstract and confirmation of podium/poster presentation.
  • The proposed budget.
  • Full disclosure of financial support from other sources.

BSCOS support must be acknowledged in the elective report or at the beginning or end of the presentation.

The successful applicant will be informed in advance of, and whenever possible, should attend the BSCOS Annual Meeting in Manchester to be presented with the bursary.

Conditions:
  • Funds should not be committed until the Hon Secretary has confirmed the award in writing (or by email).
  • Unless agreed otherwise, the presentation or visit is to be completed before the next Annual Meeting of the Society.
  • The award will be made up to the amount of GBP £500.00 in to a nominated bank account
  • The recipient must present at the next Society meeting, if invited with appropriate advance notification

The purpose of this £750 Bursary is to support the costs incurred by a trainee presenting a paper relevant to the practice of children's orthopaedic surgery at an overseas meeting.

The application must include a statement detailing:

  • Support by a member of BSCOS in good standing.
  • The meeting at which the work will be presented.
  • The accepted abstract.
  • Confirmation that the presentation will be given from the podium.
  • The proposed budget.
  • An indication of financial support from other sources.

BSCOS support must be acknowledged at the beginning or end of the presentation.
